The safest way to choose an LG refrigerator water filter is to match two separate numbers: the refrigerator model number and the part number printed on the old filter. They identify different things. The refrigerator model belongs to the appliance; the filter number belongs to the replaceable cartridge.
Do not order from the LG name or door style alone. LG refrigerators use several filter families, including LT1000P, LT800P, LT700P, LT600P and LT500P.
Find the two labels first
Open the refrigerator and look for a rating label marked Model or Model No. It is commonly on an interior wall or near the ceiling, although the position varies. Copy every letter and digit, including any suffix after a slash or dot. A serial number marked Serial or S/N is not the model number.
Next, read the label on the cartridge already installed. Photograph the complete filter number before removing it. If the print is hard to read, also photograph the connector, locking tabs and seal positions. FitFilter’s model-label guide shows what information to copy.
Match the LG filter family
Use the complete number rather than a shortened code:

Then enter the full refrigerator model in the FitFilter finder. If you search by the old filter instead, use the LG family code at the start of the matching row, such as LT1000P or LT700P. Confirm that the result agrees with the complete cartridge label and compare the product photos with the old connector. If the two checks disagree, stop and use the refrigerator owner’s manual before ordering.

Replacing an LT1000P: use the instructions for your model
LG states that the LT1000P replacement method can vary by refrigerator model. The steps below come from LG’s LT1000P Instruction and Safety Manual and apply only when your refrigerator manual shows the same cartridge arrangement:
- Open the filter cover, move the cartridge downward and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
- Insert the replacement and turn it clockwise until it clicks.
- Raise the cartridge and close the cover.
- Flush 2.5 gallons through the filter, approximately five minutes, and check for leaks.
- Hold Filter Reset for three seconds to clear the indicator.
Some LG owner manuals add a 30-seconds-on, 60-seconds-off dispensing cycle. Use that sequence only when it appears in the manual for your exact refrigerator model. Do not apply the LT1000P directions or flush amount to LT800P, LT700P, LT600P or LT500P without checking their instructions.

Before you buy
