HAF-QIN and HAF-CIN are different Samsung refrigerator-filter families. Their names look similar, so the most reliable check is the complete code printed on your old cartridge, followed by the full refrigerator model number. Samsung’s current U.S. support guide identifies three internal filter types: HAF-QIN, HAF-CIN and HAFCU1.
Refrigerator model and filter number are different
Your refrigerator model identifies the appliance. Look for Model or Model Code on the label inside the refrigerator and copy the entire value, including a suffix such as `/AA` when present. Do not substitute the serial number.
The filter number is printed on the removable cartridge. Photograph that label and the cartridge end. A DA number can identify a cartridge, a related assembly or a system reference, so compare the full number with the product page instead of matching only the first digits.
Use FitFilter’s model-label guide if you are unsure which label you found.
HAF-QIN, HAF-CIN or HAFCU1?
| Old-filter reference | FitFilter match |
|---|---|
| HAF-QIN, HAF-QIN/EXP or DA97-17376B | HAF-QIN compatible filter |
| HAF-CIN, HAF-CIN/EXP, DA29-00020A or DA29-00020B | HAF-CIN compatible filter |
| HAFCU1, HAF-CU1 or DA29-00003G | HAFCU1 compatible filter |
Codes such as DA97-08006A or DA97-08006C can appear in related system references. Do not use one of those codes alone to choose a cartridge. Confirm the cartridge label, connector and refrigerator model in the FitFilter finder.

Installation depends on the identified family and refrigerator
Samsung’s official U.S. replacement page gives this sequence for HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN filters: turn off the refrigerator’s water supply, open the filter cover, rotate the old filter counterclockwise to unlock it, remove the protective cap from the new filter, then insert and turn it clockwise until it locks. The lock symbol should align with the indicator line.
For HAFCU1, the same official page describes twisting left to remove and right to secure, aligning the cartridge notch with the arrow on the housing. It then tells users to dispense several gallons to clear air or impurities and reset the indicator.
Treat these as family-specific guidance, not a substitute for the manual for your refrigerator model. Filter location, the amount to dispense after replacement and the control-panel reset path can differ. If your manual gives a different step, direction or amount, follow the model manual.
Reset the light using the matching control type
Samsung lists several reset paths. Standard controls may use a three-second Filter Reset hold. Family Hub models use Apps → Fridge Manager → Fridge Settings → Water Filter → Reset. Models with arrow buttons use More Options → Filter Reset. RF4289 and RSG309 have another Settings-based path.
Identify your refrigerator and control panel before using any of those methods. If the light stays on, return to the exact model manual rather than repeating a different model’s button sequence.
Final check before ordering
The family name, full cartridge code, full refrigerator model and connector photo should all point to the same result. If they do not, send FitFilter both label photos before buying. Once the match is confirmed, choose the pack size you need from the corresponding product page.
