“Filter 1,” “Filter 2,” “Filter 3” and “Filter 4” are separate cartridge families. The number is part of the filter identity; it is not a quality grade or a sequence you can swap between. Start with the full code on the old filter, then confirm it against the refrigerator model.
Find the appliance model and old-filter code
Open the refrigerator and look for a label marked Model or Model No. Copy all letters, digits and suffixes. A final revision can matter: for example, the number after the base model may distinguish one filter arrangement from another. Do not use the serial number.
Before removing the cartridge, photograph its complete label. Look for an EDR code, a “Filter” number or an older part number. Photograph the connector and cap too. FitFilter’s model-label guide explains which appliance number to copy.

Whirlpool’s owner page for WRS325FDAM identifies EDR1RXD1 / Filter 1 for that model family. Its owner page for WRF757SDHZ04 identifies EDR2RXD1 / Filter 2. These examples show why a full appliance model can settle a confusing cartridge label. They do not establish fit for a different refrigerator with a similar model name.
Installation, flushing and reset steps vary
Do not use one Filter 1–4 installation sequence for every Whirlpool refrigerator. Filter location, release mechanism, flushing directions and reset controls can vary. Use the owner manual for the complete Whirlpool refrigerator model as the authority for those steps.
After you confirm the filter family:
- Download the owner manual for the complete refrigerator model.
- Follow that manual’s removal direction, cap transfer and locking steps.
- Use its stated flush amount or dispensing sequence.
- Check for leaks while the filter is seated.
- Reset the status light using the exact buttons named for that control panel.
If your manual is unavailable, do not guess based on door style alone. Contact Whirlpool support or send FitFilter the refrigerator label and old-filter photos for help identifying the family.
Final check before buying
Confirm the full refrigerator model, old-filter code and connector shape. Then choose a 1-, 2- or 3-filter pack from the matching product page. Filter 1, 2, 3 and 4 cannot be selected by pack price or appearance alone.
